Dinner & Dance

DinnerLogoWhen was the last time you were offered a fancy candlelight dinner, a night of dancing & onsite childcare with a bonus of having a hand in impacting the world for the Gospel?  I am guessing it has been a while!  Fellowship Student Ministries is hosting our fourth annual Dinner & Dance event – Friday, February 7th from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM here at Fellowship.

Candlelight dinner in an intimate setting awaits as well as hitting the dance floor in style!  Your children, birth through 9 years old will eat and enjoy play time with kids their age as they are well cared for by our youth & adults onsite.

There is no cover charge for the event.  We do this for a couple reasons.  We want people to respond to Jesus in how much they are to contribute to the fundraiser, not box anyone in.  The second is we view this as an opportunity to serve our own Body of Christ here.  If someone does not have money, but needs a night out – we are excited to do that!  So the event is free, but we will be asking for donations that will only go towards the members of the teams that are working the event.

Don’t like dancing?  That’s OK!  This is not just about dancing.  We are supporting young men & women who desire to go into neighborhoods & serve Jesus & go across the ocean to tell people about Jesus.  However, while celebrating that, you may change your mind & decide to kick up those dancing shoes as well!

Sign-up online or at the Connection Center on Sunday!

God at work in the Delta: OMP 2013 Report

Saturday, June 15, a team of 11 students, 2 parents, and myself returned from a week in Marianna, AR, participating in the Ozark Mission Project.  OMP is one of the yearly mission trips our youth have the opportunity to take part in.  These students pay or raise support to give up a week of their summer to go work hard, fight mosquitos, and sweat in the Arkansas Delta.

Here’s a breakdown of how the week goes.  First, the students arrive and meet the other campers and the camp staff they will be spending the week with.  Next, the camp is split into 3 major groups where one college staff member is assigned to each group. Finally, each major group is broken down into 3-4 family groups.  A family group is made up of 1 adult driver and 4-5 students.  These family groups receive projects at a “neighbors” house each day.  These projects range from scraping and painting to building a 40-foot wheelchair ramp!  One of the best times of the week though is getting to meet your neighbor.  The students get the chance to hangout with their neighbor during breaks in the workday. They also have the opportunity to share lunch and a devotional with their neighbor.  Every OMP has a theme that carries you though the week.

This year’s theme was “Awaken”.  The students where challenged to “Wake Up” to God’s love, our need for God, and our call as believers to be the hands and feet of Christ.  We had nightly worship services and morning devotionals that expanded on our theme.  Also, we had times of camp wide “sharing” where we encouraged each other with how we saw God that day.

I am so proud of our team and how God used each of them in amazing ways that really impacted peoples lives. If you would like to find out more about each student’s individual camp experience and projects, just ask them!  Below is a list of our students and adults that went.

Please be in prayer for our Ozark Mission Project Team that left Sunday, Jun 9th for 7 days of serving IMG_8139 Jesus through loving people in Marianna, Helena & Forrest City. We are so thankful for the opportunity to launch our youth into the community through a short-term mission trip. We are praying for many opportunities to glorify and make much of Jesus to all those they come in contact with.

Fellowship does short-term mission trips as a way to expand the understanding of God’s purpose for every believer to make disciples by joining God in His grand mission to reach the ends of the earth for His Kingdom. Our heart is that living out the Great Commission not be confined to mission trips, but through mission trips would each team member would grow in their understanding of how we should be living for the purposes of God daily.

Team members include:

Zach, Jodie, Andrea, Alex, Jacob, Kyler, Aaron, Heidi, Karis, Nathaniel, Connor, Luke, Geoff & Emily.
