CZR 2019 Update # 2 – Cooler Weather and Warm Relationships
We are entering our third full day of camp now and everything is going great. Last night the unusual heat broke and we had thunderstorms through the evening and night but this brought much cooler weather (highs in the lows 70’s and high 60’s for the next five days). We have also figured out how to work with the staff of our new location and they have started to ask us if there is anything else they can do for us. This has been an unexpected and welcome shift from how we started. Thanks for your prayers.
As for the real focus of camp, I am very excited with how everything is working and relationships are developing. Each member of our team is making a great contribution and investing in relationships well. I have been so blessed to have the experience of veterans Monica Thompson (3 years), John Boles and Emily Allison (2 years) as they lead English Classes and know the routine. John is leading sports class, Monica is leading worship (Crazy camp songs as well) and Emily is keeping everything organized. Emily was also the champion of Egg – Chicken – Raptor last night! Charlie Bates (first year) has fit in perfectly, not only as he continues to invest in the members of his Fellowship Youth Small Group who are here but also his expertise in Apologetics is useful in many situations.
Our two Cades are the foundation of our American team. Cade Griffith who has been to the CZR four years in a row is a relational dynamo. He arrived here two weeks before us. On the first evening of camp, I was having conversations with the Czech Students to help place them in the proper level of English Class. I asked the first student, “How did you hear about English camp?” His response, “I became friends with Cade Griffith on Facebook and he invited me.” Cade knows and loves everybody. His excitement level is never ending. Cade Stuart, who is here for the third year in a row has taken on a ton of leadership responsibilities. He is teaching an English Class, leading the camp dance (the boy has moves) and is doing our ice breaker games. Cade is a Natural Born Leader, humble and an amazing asset to the team.
Caitlin Boles (Praise the Lord her luggage arrived on time this year) is a delight and fully engaged in taking her previous relationships and conversations even deeper. Wesley Thompson has taken on the new role of Camp Photographer and produces a video for every day. You will get to see some of his work when we get back. Maddie Allison, our final veteran is helping with the intermediate English Class and sings with Monica for Worship at night. Each one of the has really benefited from being here a second year.
Our first year Team Members are all jumping in like pros. I am truly stunned. Audrey Allison has teamed up with Cade Stuart to teach and lead the Camp Dance (The two of them should be on America’s Got Talent) and she is fully engaged in relationships and activities. In addition to putting up with the constant torment I dish out, Esther Thompson has been the biggest surprise of the year for me. She is full of energy, spunky and does not hesitate to jump into any activity. She always has a smile on her face.
Finally, Luke Daniel and Eli Stuart. What can I say? Really. Camp would not be the same without them. Immediate energy and enthusiasm for every activity. They are constantly in the center of all free time activities and the subject of most of the memes that have been created for camp. (I am sure they are somewhere on the internet).
We have an amazing team and everyone is doing really well. We are early in the week and already feeling at home and in the routine. Keep us in your prayers and we move deeper into relationships and toward the full presentation of the gospel on Wednesday Night (around Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. your time).
For the Only Cause that Matters,
Ken for the Team
