We have arrived at our Camp – Penzion Koniklec – in the mountains north of Prague. We have a beautiful view of a Little Village in the Valley below us. We have settled into our rooms and prepared the Camp for the arrival of the Students today at 4:00 p.m. The Internet Connection is not working at our Hotel and will not be repaired (we hope) until Monday. I am currently a few buildings up the road (use your imagination) and will be able to get a few messages out over the next few days. Tuesday and Wednesday are Holidays on the Czech Republic (Jan Hus Day and The Arrival of Cyril and Methodius Celebration). If we do not get internet on Monday, it may not be available until Thursday. All of that is to let family members know that our communication is going to very limited for at next the next few days and perhaps even beyond that.
The weather here is really quite cool (perfect for my Alaskan Blood) with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. The setting in our Hotel is different than anything we have ever seen before. We are in a small hotel (Penzion) and we are the only people here. We are nestled into the side of a hill with a ski lift immediately outside the building but with other similar builds quite near us. We will have 74 people here filling every room and we will have to eat in shifts.
We have a had a great time traveling and getting the rooms set up for the students to arrive. Allyssa Strickland (Stricklandova) just captured the our mood well when she said, “I feel like we have prayed and are united and ready.” Blake Singleton (Singletonova) added, “Ready to be used in a big way.” There is an air of excitement and anticipation everywhere. For those of us who have been before (Shane, Janna, Anderson, Melodie and myself) we know what is about to happen when the students arrive and the long, hard, exhausting and thrilling week of building relationships begins. For those who are here for the first time (Jordan K., Blake, Jonathan, Jessica, Zack, Conner, Nick, Tyler, Nick C., Allyssa, Caroline, Ben, Jordan L., Bob, Sam) the anticipation has a little bit of anxiety mixed in with it. But we are all confident that God has called us to be here and we are ready to be used for His purpose & glory over the next 13 days.
Please pray that we would make and reestablish connections quickly and that each one of us is able to be open and aware of those who are needing us to pursue them in order to drawn them in.
P.S. to our Families – We are all doing well and everyone on our team has a unique fit that has emerged very quickly over the past week. It has been amazing to see people step forward in ways that have been sometimes natural and sometimes surprising. We really do value each individual’s contribution and the team really feels like a team. It is a privilege to be here and a part of it all.
Under the Cross
