Wow! Camp has started with a bang. All of our campers/students arrived yesterday at about 4:00 and we have been running hard since then. We started by greeting the students as they got off the bus with a tunnel for them to run through. All that was missing was the juice box and Rice Krispy Treats. After the luggage was off the bus a few of us started to test students to determine their level of english proficiency so we could place them in their english classes. We have 75 students at camp this year and we are at a fantastic facility.
Last night we encountered our first glitch at camp. It seems like a small thing, but the video projector went out. This would not be as big a deal if we had not been planning on using it for introducing the camp dance and a video the first night for discussion groups. It is also tough to sing songs in english with native Czech speakers if you cannot project the words. We had to cut most of the singing out of
the first evening program. Luckily, I am old enough to remember teaching before the use of Powerpoint. You would have loved seeing the talk last night. I had Lathan Tipton and Evan Fulmer holding a homemade flip chart as Terka Becková wrote out the details of the days of creation from Genesis 1 in Czech. I think it went very well.
On a serious note, please pray that we can solve the technical issues we have. Some of the videos we show are very helpful to get the students engaged the themes of the week. Our enthusiasm and energy levels are all very high. Pray that we will maintain this level as the week goes on. Last night we all got to bed around midnight and our morning devotions were at 7:30. Short nights will be the norm from here on out. Tonight is our Night Game (always a huge hit) so we may get even less sleep tonight.
We miss you all and are so excited serving the Lord here in the Czech Republic.
