I. The Joy of Forgiveness: The forgiveness of sin brings great joy and relief (32:1-2).

B. There is great relief in knowing there is no further condemnation (2).
II. The Misery of Guilt: The misery of guilt is removed with the confession of sin (32:3-5).
A. Refusal to confess known sin results in divine discipline (3, 4).
B. Confession of known sin results in full forgiveness (5).
III. The Protection of Confession: The faithful find protection and deliverance when they confess their sins (32:6-7).
A. Timely confession protects the believer from the misery of broken fellowship (6).
B. The Lord provides protection and deliverance to those who freely confess (7).
IV. The Character of God: The Lord’s loyal covenant love compels us to trust Him and be honest about our sin (32:8-11).
A. Forgiveness enables us to teach others of God’s gracious dealings with sinners (8).
B. Stubborn pride must be rejected to avoid the Lord’s discipline (9).
C. The Lord’s loyal covenant love compels us to trust Him (10).
D. The faithful find great joy in the loving character of the Lord (11).
Because forgiveness of sin
brings joy and freedom,
confession of sin is the only wise path.
- I will stop hiding (which is futile – Psalm 139).
- I will confess my sin (with full acknowledgment – Psalm 51).
- I will enjoy the forgiveness of God (and embrace God’s grace – Psalm 32).
