Wiser than Words James 3:13-18
Introduction: Just how wise are you?
Wisdom is a way of living, not a body of knowledge (3:13).
The Way of the World/The Habits of Hell:
The wisdom of the world is self-centered and divisive (3:14-16).
Character: ______________ and _______________ (v.14)
Source: __________, _________, and ___________ (v. 15)
Results: __________ and _____________________ (v.16)
The Way of the Wise/The Habits of Heaven:
The wisdom of God is other-centered and peaceful (3:17-18).
Character: _______, __________, ________, ___________, _____________, __________, _________________ (v. 17b)
Results: _____________ and __________________ (v.18)
Conclusion: Let’s be honest!
In the midst of trials you demonstrate your wisdom by how you live
not by what you say.
- Monday: Ephesians 4:1-6
- Tuesday: Philippians 1:27-28
- Wednesday: Galatians 5:16-26
- Thursday: Matthew 5:1-12
- Friday: James 4:1-10
Next Steps from Today’s Message
- I will take an inventory of my life and see if it is characterized more by chaos or peace.
- I will commit to being more other-centered with _____________________________.
- I will pray each day this week that my focus will be on God and others instead of myself.
