We are all back in Managua now and waiting to get some dinner in the “hood” at a Fritonga (Local Street Side Grill) in Cairo’s old neighborhood. The final day of the Bible Institute was a fantastic encouragement. We gave the students a comprehensive review test of the whole week. We asked them to try and not use their notebooks but they could if they needed to. After Tommy gave the test I reviewed it with them and was really encouraged with the depth with which they all processed the material we had taught. It was a real treat to hear the truths of scripture come back at us with passion and conviction.
This was followed by our “Pastor’s Round Table” which lasted for an hour as Pastor after Pastor stood to share their “Personal Take aways” from the week. Hilario started out by sharing that he was going to work hard at developing leaders in his church using the material we taught. Another pastor from Santo Thomas stood and blew us all away when he shared that he got together with the members of his church who had attended this week and they worked as a group to prepare the “Key Ideas” for them. First on their list was to develop a plan for training leaders. Others shared that they were going to be more loving as they confronted the members of their church about sin and then one pastor stood and said that he had already started the changes in his church and they began last night when he confessed his own sins to his leaders. He said, “I cannot ask the members of my church to do something I am not willing to do.” Another pastor shared that he was going to study the Key passages we talked about to understand them more deeply. I could go on and on but God gave us a taste of the work he had been doing all week while we were teaching. It was the best way to end the week I could imagine.
On the way out Tommy and I stopped at the Orphanage to see Blanca and the new baby “Caleb.” What a blessing it was to walk in and see he in her “Nursery” (Thanks Judy, Michelle, Todd and Wayne). And Caleb was sleeping just like a baby. Tommy and I took more pictures than you can imagine. AND, to our surprise there was another young girl in the room with her. Thanks to the work that was done in November, the orphanage was able to provide a place for another 13 year old girl who had been abused by her father and was pregnant when she arrived at the Orphanage. Maria and Daria now share the room with Blanca and Caleb. It is a tight fit but they have all they need to take care of their little ones. Both of them look scared but they really seem to love their gifts from God. Once again a picture paints a thousand words. So I am attaching pictures of Blanca and Caleb (sleeping) and Maria and Daria.
