When we put the tags on the angel tree to provide Christmas for our ministries at Sallie Cone Elementary and Life After Prison Ministries we could not have predicted the impact of a coat. Below is a story that was sent in by Shane Willbanks, one of the leaders of Life After Prison Ministries at Fellowship, sent about giving out the gifts from the angel tree that Fellowship gave.
Thanks for being generous and allowing things like coats to further the work of Jesus Christ in these ministries.
Just wanted to pass this along to you. Monday night when we handed out the Angel Tree gifts to our proteges, one of them was especially moved. This middle aged man, who stands about 6 foot 5, began to tear up when he opened his box and saw that he had received a coat. “I can’t believe I got a coat. How did you know I needed one? I didn’t ask for one.” I told him how I’d noticed he’d come to group week after week without one, even when it was cold. I told him how I put his need before the church and they responded generously. Through tears he told me how just a month ago he was homeless, and now he was sitting in a room surrounded by people who love him, in a church who doesn’t even know him but got him a coat. He was overwhelmed. And we were truly blessed to be a part of such generosity. Please tell the church body how much we appreciate their support in this ministry.Blessings,Shane Willbanks
